Born in 2002 in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg, Kutloano grew up loving music and growing up around a church-going family. His congregation, friends of his family, and his family always let him know that he had a great vocal ability, therefore he was a good vocalist. However, his special friend, Tshepiso Phake, introduced him to music and art. I always loved music; however, I did not know that one could actually write his own music until Tshepiso showed me how to, and since then I have never looked back. In high school, Kaymo joined the Zion School Choir, where he realised his skill of writing music and perfected it; the rest is history. Through his network from 2019 to 2023, Kaymo Grillz took on features with industry stars to build his name.

The features included Lady Du on Ele De, Ntokzin on Abantu, The Nubians ZA and Pleasure Tsa Manyalo on Pleasure Tsa Manyalo. Kaymo has built his street cred by also performing on stages with the likes of Bassie, MFR Souls, Sol Phenduka, The Majestiez and Lebo Sekgobela. He recently started dabbling in producing music for TV shows, movies and advertisements; he has a song produced for an upcoming online show on the Podcast Network called HookUp, presented by influencer Zille Wizzy. Putting together this project came with a lot of sacrifice, including dropping out of university, and that compromised my family, but I feel it in my soul that this music thing is my calling, Kaymo says. Kaymo Grillz is one person passionate about spreading love.

He believes that if people love one another, it is easy to be compassionate about each other, and with that, all the killings and violence will be a thing of the past. But love is the first step; hence, his soon-to-be-released album is titled ‘Positive Vibes Only’. Kaymo would like his fans to remember him as one who brought people from different cultures together through the art of music, bringing peace and stability. To the lovers of Afropop music, may we all enjoy Kaymo’s first solo single offering, titled ‘SO-SO-SO’, while we patiently wait for the 14-track album to drop in 2024 under his label, Circle 88 Music.
